Here’s what our employees have to say about working at J. Lauritzen
Mia Storgaard Andersen
Finance & Accounting Trainee
I joined J.
Lauritzen in August 2007 after graduating from business college in June the
same year. The prospect of being enrolled in a trainee programme with an
international company working globally was a challenge that I couldn't
resist. I'm going to spend my first year with Lauritzen Tankers and
will move on to another business area within the Lauritzen Group in
September 2008.
So far, the trainee programme, including the on-the-job training, has fully
met my expectations. My colleagues and mentor are highly professional in
their work - always ready to share their knowledge with me. What has been
one of the major surprises to me is the high degree of independence I have
been given in my work right away. I'm in daily contact with business
partners abroad, and I recently had the opportunity to visit one of
Lauritzen Tankers' vessels calling at the port of Antwerp in Belgium.
My job as a trainee within Finance & Accounting is to make sure that
all bills related to the voyages of Lauritzen Tankers' vessels are
paid, so when the voyage is completed the financial part of it is in good
order. In other words, as a trainee I already play an important role when
it comes to the daily financial operations of Lauritzen Tankers'
vessels.
Brian Worning
Shipping Economist
When I started
working for JL about a year ago, I came straight out of business school but
was immediately given the opportunity to participate in all
aspects of developing our business project portfolio. I have had great
responsibility entrusted upon me even from the beginning, which has
required and inspired me to push myself even further than I might have
hoped for in my “first real job”. My job requires me to cooperate closely
with people of different professions and personalities, which is indeed a
great learning experience. The gravity and complexity of our projects
combined with the informal and flat organizational structure makes for an
exciting and very enjoyable working environment.
Rashid Beg
IT Help-desk Supporter
My job is to help my
JL colleagues worldwide when they have any IT related problems. This means
that every day I have contact with many people, either by telephone or
personally, which makes every day different. For me, JL is a firm where I
have the opportunity to go through personal and professional development.
For example, a personal experience: with help from JL I have recently begun
an academic education in the field of IT network security. This is a
company that is continually in progress, which I see as a personal and
professional challenge. You have to keep yourself up-to-date to meet this
challenge, which is why I enjoy working for JL.
Malin Mattson
Legal Counsel
After five years of
studying and working within shipping and maritime law, I joined the J.
Lauritzen Legal Department in November 2006. Being one of the two legal
counsels is both a very interesting and demanding task. My job is to
provide service, advice and legal guidance to the whole company, which of
course is challenging in itself. This means that I not only need to learn
about all the different business areas within the Lauritzen concern, but
there is also a need to understand the different ways of providing legal
advice. My over-all experience at Lauritzen has been fantastic. From the
legal department’s perspective, there is a lot going on all the time and
the company is very dynamic. Being a part of this great “machinery” is
really exciting, and I am very happy for that. Although I haven’t
been with the company for very long, I already feel that I am part of the
Lauritzen team, which makes my day-to-day work a pleasant experience. Even
though it is a relaxed atmosphere at work, you can easily feel that
everyone is working towards the same goal - World Class Shipping.
Ejner Bonderup
Senior Vice President, Lauritzen Bulkers
I have been working
for JL - starting as a trainee - ever since 1988 and have had 18 very good
years with the company. During my time with JL, I have had the pleasure of
being stationed abroad three times, first in Tokyo, then in Melbourne and
most recently in New York. So - simultaneously with building my career, of
course - JL has helped me to live out some of my more personal ambitions in
terms of experiencing the world outside of Denmark. However, whether you
work in Copenhagen or anywhere else in the world, JL definitely provides
individuals with a lot of possibilities for testing out their abilities in
the global marketplace. At JL, I've had the advantage of working for a
sound company with good, straightforward business ethics and of being
surrounded by top professional colleagues. It strikes me that JL has always
managed to attract and employ super professional people who have the
ability to live out the core values of the company - this helps maintain
the positive strong image JL enjoys around the world today and makes it a
daily pleasure to work here.
