J. Lauritzen participated in a workshop arranged by the Climate Partnership for the Blue Denmark (Det Blå Danmark) on 17 December 2019.

The Climate Partnership has been requested by the Danish Government to prepare a common vision and proposals to reduce the greenhouse gas footprint from the maritime sector drastically.

Several initiatives on Danish as well as international level constitute the background for the partnership, which was established in November 2019. These include the newly adopted and very ambitious Danish law on climate, the EU Commission’s “European Green Deal” and the IMO 2018 decision to reduce CO2 emissions.

Speakers at the event included the Chairman of the Climate Partnership for the Blue Denmark, Søren Skou, CEO of AP Moller - Maersk, Thomas Andersen, CEO of Fayard A/S and Henrik Wenzel, Professor at the University of Southern Denmark. Three key topics under discussion included:

  • what existing initiatives have the greatest potential for greenhouse gas reductions in the maritime sector;
  • what are the main barriers to the reduction of shipping and fishing greenhouse gas emissions and
  • how to ensure favourable conditions for the development of new technologies.

The vision of the Climate Partnership for The Blue Denmark is that the Danish shipping and fishing industries will be CO2 neutral by 2050 and that the first commercial CO2 neutral vessel shall be operational by 2030.  J. Lauritzen has also recently joined the Getting to Zero Coalition - read more >>>
